NYM Baseball: Eagles drop opener
By John George
The season opener for the New York Mills baseball team didn't go so well, as they lost at Verndale, 14-8 on Tuesday.
Verndale's Brady Siedschlaw was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, three runs and four RBIs in the win.
Mills had eight hits in the loss, but were hurt by four errors in the field. Tanner Wegscheid took the loss on the mound for the Eagles.
Co-Champs up next
The Eagles will play on the road again today (April 16) at Pillager. The game was scheduled to be played at Jacobson field in New York Mills, but was moved due to field conditions. An additional change to the schedule will have Pillager playing in Mills on May 12.
The home opener for the Eagles will be April 20 against Bertha-Hewitt. B-H swept Mills last year on their way to a share of the Park Region Conference title.
NY Mills will have games on back-to-back days as they take on another PRC co-champion on April 21 when they travel to Sebeka. The Trojans outscored NYM 19-0 in their two games last year.
