2008 Season: New York Mills finished last year 8-10, 6-8 in the Park Region Conference (6th Place). Bertha-Hewitt (10-4 PRC, 15-6 overall), Sebeka (10-4, 13-6) and Menahga (10-4, 14-8) tied for the PRC title. Verndale was fourth (7-7, 12-8 overall), followed by Pillager (6-7, 8-10), NY Mills, Otter Tail Central (3-10, 3-10) and Parkers Prairie (3-11, 7-13).

2008 Sections: New York Mills was the No. 6 seed in the 6A North Sub-Section playoffs. They lost their first round game to No. 3 Sebeka, 2-1. Hawley won the 6A North title, then beat Wheaton/Herman-Norcross for the 6A championship.

Hawley lost to the eventual State champ, Wabasso, in the semifinals, then beat Red Lake County for 3rd Place at State. Wabasso beat Southland in the Class A title game.

2009 Seniors: David Ayers, Joe Hendrickx, and Mike Baune.

Get to Know'em:

Juniors: Jarod Norton, Ted Rohr, Mike Cichy, Eric Wallgren, Benji Salo.

Sophomores: Tanner Wegscheid, Tristan Huwe.

Strengths: The Eagles have a lot guys that can play a lot of different positions. They will be especially deep with thier pitching. Right now it appears that Mills will have a number of players that will be able to put some time in on the mound. NY Mills will have a challenge ahead this year, losing 8 seniors to graduation, 7 of them were regular starters.

Early on right now, coach Bushinger likes what he's seeing at practices. There's definitely a hard working group of players there that want to do well.

Season Outlook: The Park Region Conference will be very competitive once again. There were very few outstanding seniors lost across the PRC, and some of the best pitchers in the conference last year were underclassman. All 3 conference co-champs will return strong teams.

Menahga and Sebeka will be tough in the 6A North Sub-Section along with Hawley. Chokia-Alberta and Wheaton/Herman-Norcross will be strong again in the south sub-section.

Coaches Quote: "It's going to take some time and games to find out where each individual player best fits within the lineup. We need to keep in mind that our goal is to be playing our best ball toward tournament time, and even though we are young, we do have a talented group of players that think will be very competitive."
