NYM Boys Basketball: Eagles get OT win over Menahga

It took overtime to do it, but New York Mills won their 10th straight game over Menahga Thursday night at the Sports Center, 76-72.

The Eagles took a nine-point lead into halftime, 36-27, but the Braves came back to force overtime, outscoring Mills 39-30 in the second half.

The difference in overtime came at the free throw line. Mills went 6-for-10 at the line, while Menahga went 0-for-4.

Isaiah Bauck hit five 3-pointers for the Eagles and finished with a game-high 26 points. Tanner Wegscheid (14) and Adam Snelgrove (13) were also in double figures.

Road loss at B-H

The Eagle boys opened a basketball doubleheader at Bertha-Hewitt Friday night. The No. 10-A Bears won their 16th straight game over Mills with a 78-42 win.

The Eagles managed only six field goals in the first half as they trailed 41-14 at the break. Erik Tumberg (15) and Isaiah Bauck (8), scored all of their points in the second half and combined for 23 of the team's 28 points after halftime.

Only 11 free throws were attempted by both teams, combined. Mills was just 2-for-4, while B-H was 7-for-7.

The B-H boys have won or tied for the Park Region Conference title in each of the past four seasons.

It wasn't a good night for NY Mills basketball, as the Lady Eagles dropped their first game of the season against the No. 6-A Bertha-Hewitt girls, 65-61.

Back-to-back DH's

The boys will be part of back-to-back home doubleheaders with the girls this week. On Feb. 5, the Eagles will host Sebeka.

At 5:30 p.m., the C-Squad girls will play in the high school gym, while the J.V. boys will play in the Sports Center. The varsity boys will play in the Sports Center at 6:30 p.m., while the J.V. girls play in the high school gym. The varsity girls will play at 8 p.m. in the Sports Center.

Sebeka, the defending co-champs of the Park Region Conference with Bertha-Hewitt, is ranked No. 3 in Class A and has beat NY Mills in four-straight games.

On Feb. 6, the New York Mills boys and girls will host Section 6A rival Waubun.

The J.V. boys will play in the high school gym and the J.V. girls will play in the Sports Center at 12 p.m. The varsity girls will take the Sports Center court at 1 p.m., with the varsity boys to follow at 2:30 p.m.

Waubun (3-11) won last year's contest, 72-55.

On Feb. 9, the Eagles cap a three-game home stand when Verndale comes to the Sports Center.

Mills beat the Pirates on Jan. 5 on a last second 3-pointer by Snelgrove. The two team's split last year, with each team winning on their home court.
