NYM Financial Aid Night set for Jan. 18 at the HS media center
Parents of New York Mills High School seniors are invited to Financial Aid Night on Monday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. in the high school media center.
With the new year, parents should be thinking about applying for financial aid for their child's college education. Financial aid is need-based money from the federal and state government that helps students pay for college.
To apply for financial aid, families need to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Many students are unaware that they might be eligible for financial aid. All students should apply-even if they may not qualify for grants, students may qualify for loans at a better rate through the federal government. The recommended and faster way of applying is online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
The presentation will cover areas of eligibility, different types of financial aid, the process of financial aid and general information regarding the FAFSA.
Mary Solarz, NYM High School counselor, and Jay Sorenson will be hosting the presentation.
A letter with more information regarding how to apply for financial aid was sent to parents of seniors.
