Mills, seeded No. 3 in the sub-section, began the game with a 24-2 run and still led by 27, 42-15, at the half.

"We really came firing against Barnesville," Eagle head coach Dave Paavola said. "The girls played their best game of the year, offensively and defensively. Our half court press caused a lot of turnovers."

The Eagles did force 25 turnovers and collected 17 steals as a team.

Sam Welter helped lead the defensive effort for the Eagles with four first half blocks. She finished with six blocks in the game to go with five points, four rebounds and two steals. Hannah Rutten led the offense with 29 points, 19 coming in the first half. She added 16 boards and six blocks, two assists and two steals.

Alicia Boe had a solid all-around game with six points, nine rebounds, eight assists, four steals and two blocked shots. Kendra McCall had two of the teams three 3-pointers and finished with 10 points.

Barnesville, the No. 6 seed, finishes the season with an 8-18 record.

Comeback win

New York Mills overcame a big first half deficit and pulled off a 48-44 upset win over No. 2 seeded Norman County West in the 6AA North semifinals Saturday at Concordia College.

The Lady Eagles trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half to NCW (20-6). But they were able to cut the difference to five by halftime as they only trailed, 30-25.

"We did not play as well Saturday and were down by 14 in the first half, but we managed to play better defense the second half holding them to just 14 points while we made a comeback," Paavola said.

Defense was the key in the second half, as Mills held NCW to 25 percent shooting from the floor (6-for-24), as they outscored the Trojans 23-14 to pull out the win.

"We did not shoot the ball well from the outside, Paavola added. "But were able to make our free throws which made the difference in the game."

The Eagles shot just 38.6 percent from the field (17-for-44), but they were 11-for-13 from the line. NCW was 4-for-20 from the line.

Rutten was 5-for-6 from the line, and led all scorers with 25 points to go with 17 rebounds. Boe was also in double figures with 15 points.
