NYM Lions donate $10K for City Hall elevator
In September, the New York Mills Lions approved a $10,000 donation to the city of New York Mills to help cover costs of a $44,000 elevator rehab project.
In a phone interview, Lions Club President Davis Leino-Mills said the reason the group donated was two-fold: First, the Lions use the City Hall Ballroom for their monthly meetings. Second, the Lions offer bar services in conjunction with events in the ballroom - which are prime fundraising opportunities for the group.
The first half of the donation, $5,000, will be given to the city in November, and the second half in January.
The elevator components are in need of replacement since the former elevator manufacturer has closed and its parts are no longer available.
