The New York Mills School Board on Monday set the 2009-10 levy at a total decrease of 10.17 percent over last year.

The board certified the 2009 levy, payable in 2010, at the "maximum" amount of $683,288.60. By fund, the change is: 5.04 percent decrease in the General Fund, 4.17 percent increase in the Community Service and a 12.9 percent decrease in the Debt Service fund.

According to Superintendent Todd Cameron, the primary reason for the decrease in the General Fund is the Health & safety project the school did with Energy Services Group for heating and ventilation improvements to reduce energy costs. The decrease in Debt Service is set by the State according to Debt Service schedule to repay bonds for past building projects.

The school board will be approving the revisions of the 2009-10 budget next month. On Monday, Cameron spoke to the board about some of the updates since the preliminary budget was approved last June. Those will be discussed and approved at the January board meeting.
