A strong pitching performance by Cichy led NY Mills to a 4-1 win over Sebeka Tuesday, avenging a loss to the Trojans over the weekend at the Menahga Tournament.

The Eagles scored all four runs in the fifth inning with Kim Becker coming through with a two-run double to score Kristen Perala and Nicole Nebosis.

Eagles 1-2 at Menahga

New York Mills was finally able to open their season Saturday at the Menahga Tournament.

Their first game was against Lake Park-Audubon, where they suffered a 5-2 loss.

The Eagles scored one run in the first and another in the second to take a 2-0 lead. Stephanie Cichy led off the first inning with a double and later scored on an error. Micaela Lausten singled in the second and later scored to put NY Mills up 2-0.

LPA took a 3-2 lead with a three-run third inning, then added runs in the fourth and fifth innings to win 5-2.

The Eagles had eight hits in the game, led by RaeAnna Salo who was 3-for-4 with a double; and Lausten was 2-for-3 with one run scored. Cichy, Emaleigh Roberts and Lauren Bach each had one hit in the loss.

Things didn't get much better in game two of the tournament as Sebeka jumped all over the Eagles, scoring six runs in the first, two in the second and five in the third, before adding one in the fourth and two in the fifth for the blowout win, 16-3.

The Eagles scored three runs on four hits. Cichy, Salo, Roberts and Jen Maki each had one hit in the game.

The Eagles ended the tournament in impressive fashion with the 18-0 win over Laporte.

Cichy pitched a no-hitter in the win and just missed a perfect game if not for a passed ball on a strikeout the last inning. The Eagles had 20 hits and scored four runs in the first, three in the second, five in the third and finished with six in the fourth for the big win.

Jenna Esala led the offensive outburst by going 4-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Kendra McCall was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored; Cichy was 2-for-4 with a double and scored three runs; RaeAnna Salo scored four runs and had one hit; Roberts also had one hit and scored three runs.

Home sweep

The Eagles were impressive in their home opener Monday as they won by 10-run rule in both games of a doubleheader sweep over Bertha-Hewitt, 13-3 and 11-1.

Cichy and Nicole Nebosis each had three hits in the game one win. The Eagles scored nine runs in the first three innings. They batted around in the sixth, scoring four times to win by the 10-run rule.

B-H scored the first run of the second game, then Mills took off, scoring two in the first and six in the second inning. After getting two more in the fourth, the Eagles put the game away in the fifth when Roberts stole two bases and scored the game winning run.

The Eagles will remain at home through the rest of the month. They will host Wadena-Deer Creek on Friday, April 24 at 4:30 p.m. On April 27, they take on Section 6A rival Ashby, then return to Park region Conference play on April 28 with a home doubleheader against Otter Tail Central. They play another home doubleheader on April 30 against Menahga.
