NY Mills hosted Section 8A foe Wadena-Deer Creek Tuesday for Parent's Day at the Mills City Courts. The Lady Eagles put on a good show for their folks as they picked up a 6-1 win.

"Our girls had a very fun day of tennis last Saturday at our fundraiser tournament and I had a feeling it would carry over into the week with some very good tennis," said head coach Gary Bach.

Mills took advantage of W-DC missing some starters and nearly pulled off a sweep. They were able to sweep all four singles matches. Savannah Thompson won an entertaining match at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-4.

"Our singles players really took control in the early matches capped off by Savannah winning a hard fought match coming from behind in both sets," Bach said.

The team nearly pulled off the shutout. But after dropping the first set, the third doubles team of Abby Salo and Victoria Selander really turned the match around by winning the second set, but then faltering a bit early in the tiebreaker, then trying to catch up, with W-DC hanging on in the end.

Prairie Conf. canceled

Mills was scheduled to play in the Prairie Conference Tournament this weekend, but the plug was pulled on the tournament with only four teams remaining due to Upsala/Swnaville Area's program folding last year.

"I am sorry to see it go," Bach said. "It was a nice part of our season. "

Bach said the remaining coaches of the conference asked the committee to invite West Central Area to join. They apparently wanted to do so, but only if football could join also, which apparently wasn't in the plans for the Prairie Conference.

The Lady Eagles next action will be Sept. 28 at Perham. On Oct. 1, they travel to Osakis before returning home Oct. 6 for the regular season finale against St. John's Prep.
