Mills closed out their Park Region Conference schedule with a win at Menahga Tuesday night, 3-2 (29-27, 18-25, 21-2, 25-19, 15-9).

Katie Schik was solid in every aspect of te game in Mills' win. She had eight kills and four blocks at the net, and nine digs to go with seven service aces from the back row. Kimberlee Erickson also had a big game for the Eagles, leading the team with 14 kills. Brittnie Menze had nine kills and nine digs.

Freshman Jackie Imsande stepped up in her first major action at the varsity level. She had four kills, six digs, a block and a pair of aces.

Lauren Rud had 32 set assists to go with six aces.

The Eagles have won their last three matches against the Trojans, including a 2-0 win at the Mills Invitational earlier this season. Tuesday's win snapped a four-match losing streak and gave the Eagles a 3-4 record in the Park Region Conference.

Illness derails tourney

The Eagles were scheduled to take part in the Litchfield Invitational on Oct. 10. The team did not participate due to many illnesses on the team. It's a problem Mills head coach Amy Koskela, and may other area coaches have been dealing with this fall.

"It's been difficult putting a consistent team on the court lately with all the illness and injuries we've had because from practice to games, we haven't had all the same girls to work with," Koskela said. "We didn't go to Litchfield last weekend so that the girls could rest over the weekend and hopefully get over the sickness."

Koskela added that the team will still practice as normal, but if girls aren't feeling well, they may scale back as they don't want them there to get others sick.

"I have about three girls who've had to practice a couple of positions in case I need them in the game," Koskela said. "I've also had to move up some JV girls to fill in if needed."

Home finale

Mills will play their regular season finale on Oct. 19 at Browerville. The Tigers (15-9, 6-4 Prairie Conference) won last year's match, 3-1.

Browerville has won three of their last four matches. All three wins came by scores of 3-0.

The Section 6A Playoffs are scheduled to begin Thursday, Oct. 29.
