NYM woman publishes award-winning story
New York Mills resident, Cindy Fox, recently published an award-winning story called "Crisscross." Her story won first place from Jackpine Writer's Bloc in the creative nonfiction category.
The work appeared in a compilation book of short stories called, "The Talking Stick."
The story, "captures a moment while I sat at my father's funeral," Fox explained in a phone interview. It uses "images to portray my feelings."
"Crisscross" is the 12th article Fox has had published since she started writing in 2009. Her stories have appeared in the Lakes Region Review, previous issues of "The Talking Stick" and various magazines.
Fox also does live readings of her work at theaters around the area.
"The Talking Stick: Volume 21," of 2012 contains 96 pieces from authors with a Minnesota connection. It's a publication of Jackpine Writers Bloc of Park Rapids and Menahga. The book is published with grant monies, contributions and with sales from previous year's publications.
