The match was tied 30-30 when Jarrod Norton and Landyn Saewert finished the match with a pair of pins for the Eagles.

Early pins by Shane Novak (103), Josh Bernu (119) and Maison Roberts (125) gave Mills a 18-3 lead. Tommy Selander put up a good fight in a 4-1 loss at 112 pounds against W-DC's Mitch Steffens, who is ranked No. 9 in Class A.

A pin by Jordan Novak at 145 pounds put Mills up, 30-12. But W-DC would fight back, winning the next four matches to tie the score, 30-30.

Norton needed just 2:23 to pin Tyler Wohlwend at 215 pounds, and Saewert ended the match wit ha fall in 56 seconds against Dylan Anderson.

"We found ways to go six minutes," head coach Eric Niemi said. "Our team continues to get better each match. Tonight we pinned where we needed to pin and continued to find ways to win."

Jordan Novak's pin at 145 pounds put's his career record at 164-37.

This past week he passed Mike Weller (162) and Jacob Malone (163) on the school's all-time wins list. He's now four wins behind Peter Mursu, who is Mills' all-time leader at 168-42-1.

Win at B-H/V

The Eagles won their second straight match Thursday night with a 66-12 win at Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale.

The Eagles had little trouble with their Park Region Conference rivals. NY Mills had seven wins by fall, five coming in the first period.

The match of the night came in the finale. Landyn Saewert, ranked No. 5 in Class A at heavyweight for NY Mills, beat B-H/V's Colin Turchin, 21-15. Turchin is ranked No. 4 in Class A at heavyweight.

The only other decision of the night came at 125 pounds, where Mills' Maison Roberts beat B-H/V's Kasey Horn, 12-5.

B-H/V's 12 points came on two forfeits, both going to ranked wrestlers: No. 3 (160) Jake Braaten at 152 pounds, and No. 8 (189) Amos Schmidt at 171 pounds. Mills also had three wins by forfeit at 135, 140 and 145 pounds.

B-H/V won last year's dual, 39-38, then went on to finish third at the PRC Tournament behind Browerville/Eagle Valley and Osakis.

1st place at LP-A

On Jan. 22, the Eagles took part in the Terry Teiken Tournament at Lake Park-Audubon High School. NY Mills had a pair of champions and a pair of runner-ups as they took first place as a team with 189 points.

Shane and Jordan Novak were both individual champions for the Eagles. Shane won the 103 pound title, and Jordan was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament by winning the 135-pound title.

"We had a real solid tournament," Niemi said. "Shane and Jordan dominated in the finals and we placed well in the wrestlebacks. We've had a good couple week's in the room and I think it's starting to show on the mat."

Seth Hofland finished in second place at 145 pounds, and Landyn Saewert was the runner-up at heavyweight for NY Mills.

The Eagle cheerleaders won the Spiirit Award at the LP-A Tournament.
