After No. 7 Barnesville eliminated No. 10 Breckenridge at the Sports Center in an earlier match, New York Mills took care of business by knocking out Barnesville, 42-24.

Jordan Novak, Seth Hofland, Jarrod Norton and Landyn Saewert all won by fall for the Eagles.

The Eagles had beaten Barnesville last month, 35-27.

Mills has now won nine-straight duals since mid-January. They have a 10-2 dual meet record since Jan. 1., their only losses coming to No. 1-A Frazee, and Perham. NYM is now 14-4 overall, going 7-0 in duals against Park Region Conference teams.

With that resume in hand, the Eagles know the road to State goes through New York Mills. They will host the Section 6A team semifinal's and championship match at the Mills Sports Center on Feb. 20.

The two semifinal matches will start at 1 p.m. New York Mills will take on No. 6 Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale, who upset No. 3 Wadena-Deer Creek, 36-33.

The Eagles beat B-H/V on Jan. 21, 66-12. B-H/V features three ranked wrestler's: Jake Braaten (No. 5, 152), Amos Schmidt (No. 6, 171), and Colin Turchin (No. 5, HWT).

The other semifinal will feature the No. 1 seed, Border West, against No. 4 Otter Tail Central / No. 5 West Central Area.

Border West is strong at the lower weights, where they have three ranked wrestlers: Gus McCarthy (No. 9, 103), Mitch Andrews (No. 3, 112), Will McCarthy (No. 6, 119).

The 6A Championship is scheduled for 3 p.m. NY Mills will also host the Section 6A Individual Tournament, Feb. 26-27.

Regular season finale

The Eagles finished off their 2010 regular season in style last Thursday with a 58-16 at Walker-Hackensack-Akeley/Nevis.

The highlight of the victory was Jordan Novak's first period pin over Devin Wicks. It was his 169th career victory, passing Peter Mursu as the school's all-time leader (see related story).
