'Oh for Jake's Sake' fundraiser this Sunday
A fundraiser for a New York Mills youth in need of a kidney transplant takes place this Sunday, June 28, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school.
Jacob Hunter Perala, 15-year-old son of Jason and Nikki Perala of New York Mills, has been diagnosed with a kidney disease called focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). He just finished 9th grade at New York Mills High School, is a confirmed member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, and is a baseball player, golfer and big brother to two brothers and two sisters.
Jacob must have a kidney transplant. He has already made one trip the University of Minnesota and is scheduled to be there again for three days to undergo more testing and take part in informational and educational programs. The transplant procedure will require him and his parents to stay in Minneapolis for three to four weeks. The hospital, doctor, surgical, and pharmaceutical expenses are staggering, not to mention the travel and lodging expenses.
The fundraiser, called "Oh for Jake's Sake", will be held at the New York Mills School commons on Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a free-will offering spaghetti dinner, bake sale and a silent and live auction featuring items from the extended family, friends, and many area businesses and artisans.
There is also a fund set up at Farmers and Merchants State Bank in New York Mills for those wishing to make a donation for Jacob's benefit. Monetary donations can be brought to the bank or sent to Farmers and Merchants State Bank, ATTN: Jacob Hunter Perala Fund, PO Box 278, New York Mills, MN 56567.
Anyone interested in donating or volunteering should contact Jake's aunt Tara Baune at firstname.lastname@example.org.
