Otter Tail County to supply sand and sandbags to residents fight flooding
The Otter Tail County Board of Commissioners voted to provide sand and sandbags for county residents.
A total of 300,000 sandbags and poly sheetings will be purchased by the county, in preparation for flooding in Otter Tail County this spring.
The decision was made after the Emergency Preparedness Committee met and developed recommendations. Widespread river flooding is not expected. However, land-locked basins will likely continue to rise with high runoff and rising ground water.
An Otter Tail County Vulnerability Report was also distributed to the five-person county board of commissioners at its Feb. 1 meeting.
The county is working with the United Way regarding the volunteer coordination and registration process.
Also at the meeting it was announced that the county will be reimbursed $16,868 by the state of Minnesota for the county's work on making repairs to damaged traffic signs and making reinstallation near Wadena.
