PACC has new flooring, membership drive on
For those hoping to lose those pesky last five... or 50 pounds, now may be the best time to become a member of the Perham Area Community Center.
The facility now has new flooring in the cardio weight room.
In August, the Perham City Council approved $23,000 to replace the flooring and spending up to an additional $7,500 to blacktop the small parking lot near the facility.
The new flooring was installed through interlocking rubber sections, much like a puzzle.
About two years ago, officials had also considered replacing the floor at a cost of about $41,000, but it was then decided to repaint the floor for less money. That idea was scrapped after it was learned the repainting would be a very labor-intensive project and possibly detrimental to PACC business due to the paint-related fumes and the need for the paint to cure for an extended period of time.
The cost of the new flooring is lower and is expected to last approximately 20 years and there will be no problems with fumes or paint. If the floor would have been painted, the life expectancy was only estimated to be about 10 years instead of 20 years for the new floor.
Back in the summer, the PACC board also recommended $7,500 to put a blacktop surface on the small parking area directly north of the PACC's field house entrance.
Other changes to the PACC this year included refinishing of the racquetball court floors in mid-September. The walls were also touched up.
The floor in the aerobic room was also refinished in late summer.
Those hoping to check out the new flooring for the first time can also now get a discount on joining.
The PACC will be holding a membership drive from Jan. 3-14. The 66,000 square foot facility includes a field house, two racquetball/ walleyball courts, swimming pool, kiddy wading pool, whirlpool, sauna, waterslide, meeting/birthday party rooms, gymnasium and roller skating rink, multi-purpose room, rest rooms, and two sets of men's and women's locker rooms on the main floor level.
The second level has an elevated walking/running track, weight rooms with free weights and weight machines, cardio exercise room with rowers, treadmills, stair steppers, stationary bikes and a dance studio.
Personal training and several classes are also available including yoga, Pilates, water fitness, Zumba and much more.
The large gym floor is also home to roller-skating on Fridays from 6-9 p.m.
For the membership drive, no further discounts apply to student memberships or those qualifying for various health insurance incentives who already receive the renewal rate. Six-month memberships are also not discounted.
