'Parade of Lights' planning underway; meeting set Sept. 22
Planning for the ninth annual Perham "Parade of Lights" is underway.
Volunteers are invited to join the planning committee; and families, businesses and organizations are encouraged to enter a unit in the parade.
This year's event is Friday, November 27--the day after Thanksgiving, as always, reported Faye Schwartzenberger at the Sept. 8 "Power Hour" meeting hosted by the Perham Area Chamber of Commerce.
Last year, there were 39 entries in the holiday kick-off parade. This year, Schwartzenberger said she would like to see us break the record from several years ago--which was 50 units.
Those who would like to participate in the planning are encouraged to attend the first meeting, Sept. 22, 11 a.m., at the Chamber offices.
"It's not too early to start thinking about your float entry," added Chamber executive director, Dan Schroeder. "Creating the floats doesn't happen overnight."
Chamber drawing a highlight after holiday parade
A special feature of the 2009 Parade of Lights holiday kick-off will be the drawing for the Perham Area Chamber raffle.
The drawing will be hosted at Mulligan's, following the 5:30 p.m. parade Nov. 27.
Tickets are still being sold for the fundraiser, which is also sponsored by the Perham Lions Club. Prizes include a 14 foot Lund boat, which is on display now at Gene's Sport Shop. His and her diamond rings and an Ariens riding mower are the other two prizes.
