Gallop, crawl, slither or fly to the Perham Area Public Library for the “Paws to Read” children’s summer program.

A range of free activities for children and their families that encourage and support a love of reading will be held through June and July. Participants also may win prizes for reaching their reading goals.

“We’ve planned a great program for kids to make the library a great place to ‘paws’ and discover what’s available for their enjoyment,” said Librarian Susan Heusser-Ladwig. “Good reading abilities provide a solid basis for a multitude of life skills in addition to being an opportunity for life-long entertainment and enjoyment.”

In addition to winning prizes for reading, weekly programs and book clubs have been scheduled. All activities will be held at the library and are free of charge.

There’s more to summer reading than just having fun.

“Studies indicate that students who read recreationally outperformed those who don’t,” said Heusser-Ladwig, and then added. “Students read more when they can choose materials based on their own interests,”

Registration will continue through the course of the program. To learn more about the summer adventures at the library, call 346-4892 or check out the library’s website at www.perhamlibrary. org.
