Pelican Rapids' Mackenzie Korf out for the year, Vikings host Perham Tuesday

PELICAN RAPIDS — The Vikings' leading scorer, sophomore guard Mackenzie Korf, will miss the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury suffered Saturday, according to a report by WDAY-TV Sports. Korf surpassed 1,000 career points in February.

No. 9-2A Pelican Rapids (18-5) has lost three consecutive games going into Perham's regular season finale in Pelican Tuesday night, including an 85-31 loss at No. 1-A Ada-Borup (23-1) Monday. Ada-Borup led by 20 at the break doubling up the Vikings 40-20 and allowing only 11 points to Pelican Rapids in the second half.

The Vikings are 9-2 in the Heart O' Lakes Conference and Perham can play spoiler as Hawley, (8-2, 16-6) and Barnesville (8-3, 17-7) still have a shot at the conference title with some help from the Yellowjackets (3-8, 10-14).

Hawley has two conference games remaining at home versus Frazee Tuesday and in Glyndon to face the Rebels Friday night. The Nuggets have won 10 straight games including a 61-36 blowout of the Vikings, with Korf in the lineup, in Pelican Rapids Feb. 13.

Barnesville wraps up HOL play at Breckenridge Tuesday.

Hawley can ensure a share of the conference crown with two victories in the final two games. The Nuggets have finished atop the HOL since 2009, winning the conference outright three of four years, sharing the title with Pelican Rapids in 2011-12.

Both Barnesville and Pelican Rapids end the regular season with non-conference games against Lake Park-Audubon and Hancock, respectively.

Should Pelican Rapids not find away to replace Korf's 24 points per game average, seeding in Section 8AA could change drastically in the next week. Currently, Hawley is ranked No. 14 in the QRF, Pelican Rapids No. 15, Breckenridge No. 18 and Barnesville No. 23.

An inflated ranking for Breckenridge due to an irregular schedule adds to the wild mix in 8AA girls basketball.

Perham is in a race for the No. 5 seed and could see its ranking aided by a win against the wounded Vikings at Pelican Rapids Tuesday evening.
