Nine errors in the field were the undoing of the Perham Yellowjackets softball team as they fell in second round play of the 8AA subsection, losing 9-3 to upset-minded Pequot Lakes.

"Nerves played a part," Head Coach Jill Walter said. "We had nerves early against Breckenridge on Tuesday, but were able to overcome that."

The Patriots, coming off an upset of the two-seed, Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines, took advantage of the uncharacteristic gaffs in the field scoring seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings to steal the game. The Jackets committed four errors in the two frames seeing a 3-2 lead disappear.

"We didn't squeeze the ball all game," Assistant Coach Howie Kangas said. "You have to have the confidence to make those plays this time of year."

The Perham bats were also cold. The Jackets were retired, in order, four consecutive innings to end the ballgame.

With senior Kristina Januszewski graduating, the Jackets will look to sophomore Ashley Silbernagel to handle much of the pitching duties next year.

Silbernagel was perfect in relief fanning the side in the seventh inning.

Januszewski took the loss. She pitched six innings, allowing seven hits, walking two and striking out five.

The Jackets came into the game riding a three-win streak and looked to make a run to the double elimination final four in Thief River Falls. Instead, Perham ends the season with a record of 11-9.
