Perham Babe Ruth 13-15 team advances to title game
PERHAM -- The Perham 13-15-year-old baseball team scored a dozen runs in the first four innings to cruise into the championship game with a 12-4 victory over New York Mills.
Alex Tostenson, Dylan Perrine, Jesse Bucholz and Patrick Murphy all scored twice for Perham.
Murphy led the team going 2-3 with two singles, a stolen base and one RBI.
Seven Perham hitters had hits in the game as the team collected eight in total.
Mason Malikowski got the win on the mound throwing five innings.
Malikowski allowed four earned runs on three hits. He struck out five batters and walked four consecutive batters in the fifth inning to get the yank from head coach Tyler Soderstrom.
Perrine pitched two scoreless innings to ice the game. Perrine allowed runners into scoring position in both innings but worked out of the jams pitching to contact. He struck out one batter.
New York Mills' Tucker Skoblik led all hitters with a perfect 3-3 day at the plate with a double, two singles and two RBI.
New York Mills had chances to get back in the game but stranded 10 batters on base. Perham could have blown the game away had they pushed their seven men left on base around to home plate.
Austin Maneval took the loss for New York Mills. He pitched 1.1 innings, allowed six runs, four earned. Maneval struck out one and walked four, while allowing three hits.
NY Mills will play Bertha-Hewitt Saturday at 2 p.m. at Krueger Field. The winner will advance to face Perham for the title.
In Babe Ruth 13 District play in Thief River Falls, #2-seeded Perham defeated #6 Thief River Falls 6-0. Perham plays the top seed Bemidji at noon in the championship bracket.
Thief River Falls defeated Detroit Lakes before losing to Perham. #3 DL plays #5 Fergus Falls in an elimination game. The winner plays the loser of Perham and Bemidji.
