Perham-Dent School District moving ahead with repair projects
The Perham-Dent School Board gave the go-ahead Wednesday for district floor and roof repair projects.
The board voted unanimously to approve a $54,000 flooring project at the Heart of the Lakes Elementary School, which will remove carpet that has been in place for 22 years. Carpet will be replaced with an epoxy coating, expected to double the life of the floor. Fred Sailer, building and grounds supervisor, said the flooring will not hold bacteria and mold, as carpet does.
A roofing project at the high school was also approved, accepting a bid of $86,845. Carpet will also be replaced at the Perham High School Auditorium, which will also see the installation of video cameras, wiring and two screens, thanks to a donation.
The Perham High School gym will also be sanded and repainted. The project will be funded by a partial donation. Lights at the Prairie Wind Middle School and Perham High School gymnasiums will be replaced under a rebate program with Otter Tail Power.
New doors at the Perham High School, multipurpose buildings and Meinhover Field are also set to be replaced to ensure security. A handicapped door will also be added to Heart of the Lakes Elementary.
