Perham FD to buy $252,500 pumper truck
An almost-new fire truck will be added to the Perham Volunteer Fire Department's fleet.
A $252,500 pumper truck was approved for purchase by the Perham City Council at the June 8 meeting.
There were five bids submitted, ranging from a 2003 pumper for about $190,000 to a brand new 2009 rig priced at $404,322.
Perham Fire Chief Mark Schmidt successfully made a case that the 2003 rig, which was a demonstration model with fewer than 100 hours of active use, was the best option for Perham. It also included a generator, a radio, a deck water gun, and other equipment that the lowest bid did not have.
Further, noted Schmidt, the lowest bid was a smaller, rescue unit as opposed to a full truck. Also, it had more than 7,000 hours of service.
The council voted unanimously to approve the purchase.
