Perham Fire Department responds to winter grass fires
The Perham Fire Department responded to two grass fires this week.
At around 3 p.m. Tuesday in Pine Lake Township, five miles southeast of Perham, a grass fire was reported.
The fire destroyed about one acre of land by the time it was put out.
On Monday, the fire department responded to an incident near 460th Avenue along the Ottertail River. High winds caused power lines to blow together, creating sparks that ignited the tall grass, said Fire Chief Mark Schmidt.
That fire also destroyed one acre.
Schmidt said it's rare for the fire department to be responding to grass fires in December.
