Perham Focus hires multimedia journalist
Readers of the Perham Focus will notice a new byline in the newspaper, and online readers may notice some enhancements to the Focus website, following the addition of a multimedia journalist to the staff.
Eric John Hendrickx joined the Focus July 2.
A recent graduate of Dakota County Technical College in Rosemount, Minn., Hendrickx has an associate’s degree in multimedia/web design.
He has extensive ties to the Perham area, with many relatives living in and around the community, and much of his childhood spent at the family’s cabin on Round Lake. He’s looking forward to settling down in the area.
“We’re excited to have Eric on board,” said Marie Johnson, editor of the Focus. “With the addition of this new position, we’re looking forward to adding more multimedia content to our website, on a more regular basis, and to expanding our use of social media as a means of getting news about Perham out to our readers. I believe Eric is the right person to help us do this.”
A graduate of Brookings High School in Brookings, S.D., Hendrickx attended college at Southwest Minnesota State University on a football scholarship. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing in December 2011.
In addition to his football background, Hendrickx also has extensive experience in baseball and coaching. This past season, he served as the assistant coach of the Perham VFW baseball team.
He looks forward to continuing his work for the Perham Focus and hopes to become active in the Perham community.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to officially thank the people of Perham for being so welcoming and being just as I remember,” he said. “This is a fantastic community and I am so thankful for the chance to set real roots here – finally.”
