Plans are well underway for the annual Perham Hall of Fame and Leadership Award banquet, set for April 2.
The event will honor four people who have made a difference in Perham.
Reservations for the dinner should be phoned in by March 25, to the Perham Area Chamber of Commerce, 218-346-7710. Social time starts at 6 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m. and program to follow.
A master of ceremonies has been selected for the evening: Katie (Hayden) Hennagir, who is a former Miss Perham.
Her selection is appropriate, as one of the Hall of Fame selections has been the driving force behind the Miss Perham Scholarship Pageant.
Miss Perham organizer Gina Cavanagh's volunteer activity is too varied to list entirely--but she has volunteered with the 4-H, the Women of Focus, the Christmas art-craft fair and St. Henry's Church--among other activities.
Patriotic quilters and a highly regarded music man will also be honored at the April 2 dinner, which will be hosted at Mulligan's.
For the Leadership Award, avid quilters Echo Dockter and Jenny Caughey will be honored for the "Quilts of Valor" program--which provides handcrafted quilts to wounded servicemen and women.
Piano and organ player, choir director, community theater music leader and all-around music man Russ Bunker will earn a spot in the Perham Hall of Fame.
The Leadership Award is presented to individuals who have done an especially good job in leading the community on a project or an important issue. Frequently, their involvement is one-on-one, helping folks on a daily basis. They also tend to be involved in organizations that help people or help their community, and they are highly generous with their time and talents.
The Hall of Fame Award is given to someone who deserves to be recognized for his or her work for the community. This person would be considered an integral part of the community and highly involved in making Perham a better community. These nominees might have been in business or a service sector in the community, working or retired, male or female, living or deceased, or even former residents. This award goes to an individual who has been highly involved in the community over many years.
