Perham high school principal finalists narrowed down to four
The Perham-Dent School District is one step closer to hiring a new high school principal.
The names of the four finalists, chosen from a group of 40 applicants, were re-leased this week after an application screening process.
The district is looking for someone with strong communication skills who is able to constantly strive for improvement in student achievements, said Superintendent Tamara Uselman.
Finalists include Jamie Bente of Lakeville, Minn.; Jill Sabol of Victoria, Minn.; Ehren Zimmerman and John Hamann, both of Fergus Falls, Minn.
These candidates were interviewed Monday, March 28.
The final recommended candidate will be up for approval by the school board at a special meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 6 in the middle school commons.
Bente serves as the Dean of Students at Richfield High School, a position he's held since 2008. Prior to that, he worked as a social studies teacher and department chair at the high school.
Bente moved to Richfield from Simley High School, where he taught German and English, while also coaching football and track and supervising the school yearbook and newspaper student groups.
He earned a bachelor's degree in history and secondary education from Mount Union College in Ohio and also holds a master's degree in education administration, along with a K-12 principal license from St. Mary's University.
Zimmeran has been with the Rothsay School District for the past nine years, serving as the K-12 school's principal. For the past eight years, he's also worked as the activities director. From 1998-99, he was a part-time physical education teacher, moving into a full-time position from 1999-2010.
Zimmerman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education and health education, with a minor in business from Concordia College.
Sabel started her career as a caseworker with the State of South Dakota in 1997-99, moving on to work for the state as a youth counselor until 2001.
From there, she entered the world of education as a guidance counselor at New Prague High School, later moving on to the same position at Orono High School, where she currently works.
Sabel has experience as a swim coach and serves as her department's chair at Orono High School.
Sabel holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in school counseling from the University of South Dakota. She also holds her K-12 school principal certification.
After serving as a K-12 principal from 1997-2010, Hamman moved into his current role in 2010 as principal for grades 5-12 in Underwood.
Prior to life in Underwood, Hamman worked from 1989-1997 at Wydmere Public School as a junior and senior high principal, athletic director, computer instructor and junior high football coach.
Hamann holds a bachelor's degree in computer science education and mathematics and a minor in coaching from Moorhead State University, along with a master's in science education from Tri-College University in Fargo. He also holds a specialist in education administrative degree from Tri-College University.
