Perham library to host art history series
The Perham Area Public Library will host the first of three art history programs on Monday, Jan. 31 from 7-8:30 p.m. Artist and art educator Lorene McIntosh will share insights on Greek and Roman art and its influence on Western art and ideas.
The free program is the first of three in the Bluestocking Salon series offered for adults and teens at the library. Other topics include the Renaissance on March 14 and Impressionism on April 11. The program is funded by Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage fund and is sponsored by Viking Library System, Perham Area Public Library and the Kaddatz Galleries.
The Bluestocking Salon: Art History for Real People series welcomes people from all levels of knowledge of art and art history. In addition to visual images of art from the time period and audience discussion, each program will feature the work of a regional artist whose style is influenced by the time period presented.
"We are excited to make a connection between art movements of the past and the art created today by artists in our own communities," said Gail Nordstrom of Viking Library System.
When feasible, McIntosh will visit a local school on the day of her library program to offer related arts education and activities to students.
Other libraries hosting the series on different dates are Douglas County Library in Alexandria, Fergus Falls Public Library, Morris Public Library and Wheaton Community Library.
The Perham Area Public Library is located at 225 2nd Ave. NE. Registration is requested by calling the library at 218-346-4892. For more information on the series, locations and dates, please contact Nordstrom at 218-739-5286.
