PERHAM — The No. 1 seeded Perham Yellowjackets (25-2) needed an hour of court time to dispatch the No. 8 Pelican Rapids Vikings 3-0 (25-14, 25-6, 25-7) in the opening round of Section 8AA South Subsection play Thursday night.

Perham will face Frazee Friday night at 7 p.m., in Perham, in the Section quarterfinals. The No. 5 Hornets upset No. 4 Pequot Lakes in five sets 3-2 on the road. The Hornets are the only team to take Perham to a fifth set this season, which they did in a 3-2 Perham victory in Frazee September 26.

Perham’s victory over Pelican was a match to a 6-6 tie in the first set before the Yellowjackets steamrolled their archrivals. Five Tina Scheidecker first set kills led Perham on a 19-8 run from the six-all tie to take the first set.

Chelsey Honrud served Perham to a 7-1 lead in the second and Perham outscored the Vikings 18-5 to go up 2-0.

The third set was similar to the second with Perham jumping out to a 6-0 advantage and cruising to the victory.
