Perham man charged with DWI
A Perham man, 44-year-old Mark James Schmidt, is facing charges of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and refusing to submit to a chemical test.
Both charges are gross misdemeanors.
Otter Tail County Court Administration records state that a caller informed authorities, at 9:42 p.m. on Friday, May 9, that a vehicle was traveling all over the road, nearly hitting another vehicle at an intersection.
An Otter Tail County Sheriff’s deputy, southeast of Perham, turned onto Minnesota Street from Highway 10. The deputy saw a vehicle matching the caller’s description pull into a driveway, then confronted the driver, Schmidt, who was arrested and transported to the Perham Police Department, court records state.
A preliminary breath test was registered at .162. At the police department, Schmidt reportedly refused other chemical testing, according to records. Authorities later interviewed Schmidt’s son, who told them his father had picked him up at a Subway restaurant and drove him home.
Court records show Schmidt has a previous DWI conviction dating back to May 7, 2010.
