Approximately 1,000 students will walk to school that day, accompanied by parents, teachers and community leaders. Buses will drop students off at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and School, where kids will be met by teachers and community leaders to walk to school.

Parents who drive their children to school are encouraged to drop them off at St. Paul's that day so they can participate in the walk. Parents are encouraged to join in, as well. (Note: Buses will still deliver students who remain on the bus to school and parents can drop their children off at school if they decide not to participate in the walk).

The seven-block route will follow the Cal Miller Bike Route, a path that has been newly improved with signage. Perham residents, including students, are also encouraged to ride their bicycles along the path. Walking and biking to and from school is one of the best ways for children to remain active and healthy.

The U.S., International Walk to School Day is expected to include 5,000 schools from all 50 states. Walkers from the U.S. will join children and adults from 40 countries around the world.

Perham Health will provide apples for all students.

This year's event is organized by the Perham-Dent School District with help from PartnerSHIP4Health, which seeks to create sustainable, systemic changes that make it easier for Minnesotans to incorporate healthy behaviors into their daily lives.
