Perham speech wins section meet; 9 advance to state
The Yellowjacket Speech Team is the champion of Section 6A.
On Feb. 5, the Perham Speech Team competed at the section tournament and won. Fourteen of the team’s competitors advanced to the final round, and nine have advanced to the state meet.
In each category, the top three competitors go on to individual state competition. Individual results are as follows:
-Mike Thompson, sixth place (creative expression)
-Maria Lorenson, fifth place (discussion)
-Alyssa Olson, sixth place (dramatic interpretation)
-Annika Kovar, fourth place (dramatic interpretation)
-Callie Wengel, first place (dramatic interpretation)
-Rory Risk and Chris Knutson, first place (duo)
-Kayla Heier, Fourth Place (extemporaneous reading)
-Julia Pearson, second place (great speeches)
-Zepherian Richardson, first place (dramatic interpretation)
-Rachel Newville, second place (informative speaking)
-Paityn Lund, first place (informative speaking)
-Emma Sweere, second place (poetry)
-Allie Christenson, first place (poetry)
-Andy Newville: sixth place (storytelling)
Students advancing to the state competition are: Callie Wengel, Rory Risk and Chris Knutson, Julia Pearson, Zepherian Richardson, Rachel Newville, Paityn Lund, Emma Sweere and Allie Christenson.
The competition will be Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12 in Blaine, Minn.
