West Fargo had received 19 applications, which was narrowed to four on Monday.

The West Fargo School Board plans to make an offer for the position by early May.

Uselman is among the four administrators are in the running.

Northern Cass (Hunter, N.D.) Superintendent Allen Burgad, West Fargo Assistant Superintendent Louise Dardis, former Fargo Superintendent David Flowers and Perham-Dent (Minn.) Superintendent Tamara Uselman were selected from 19 applicants on Monday by the school board.

Of the six candidates, Flowers and Uselman were the only administrators unanimously chosen by all seven board members as their top candidates.

Flowers, who is currently the superintendent in Hutchinson, Kan., was commended for his superintendent experience, knowledge of the area and track record. Unlike the other candidates, board members didn't vocalize any concerns about him.

As for Uselman, board Vice President Karen Nitzkorski called her a "gifted administrator."

Uselman and Burgad were both praised for their superintendent experience, though board members had some concern that they work in smaller school districts.

The board will now interview the four candidates on either April 15, 19 or 20. Students, staff and community members who participated in February input meetings will then interview the finalists.

The new administrator will follow Superintendent Dana Diesel Wallace, who's leaving the district after four years due to "new opportunities."

West Fargo has advertised the position in a salary range of $140,000 to $160,000. The Perham position presently pays about $100,000.
