Perham victorious at Jackie Mann Invitational
According to Head Coach Charlie Fleck, the Jackie Mann Invitational has not been a meet the Yellowjackets gymnastics team historically finished well in; past teams have typically had a slow start at home this early in the season.
Not this year.
The Yellowjackets were victorious taking the title with room to spare. Their score of 146.1 was nearly four points better than second place Cambridge-Isanti at 142.2.
Kelsi Vomacka, Carly Petersen and Satera Montella took individual titles.
Montella was victorious on floor exercise with a score of 9.45.
Petersen scored a 9.8 on vault to take the title and finished second all-around with a total score of 37.55.
Vomacka was the all-around champion with a score of 38. She was victorious on uneven bars with a score of 9.75. She scored 9.4 on floor, 9.5 on beam and 9.35 on vault.
Amy Crawford, of Detroit Lakes, kept the Yellowjackets from sweeping the individual events with a score of 9.6 on balance beam.
Detroit Lakes finished third with a score of 134.3, a fraction of a point ahead of fourth place Bismarck High.
St. Cloud Apollo, Minnetonka, Elk River and Bismarck Century finished fifth through eighth.
The event was a success on all fronts, not just the scoreboard.
"The longer I'm around athletics the more I appreciate quality athletes, coaches and judges, fans that behave and injury free events," Perham Athletic Director Fred Sailer said. "In that respect we all scored a '10.'"
