Perham wins another 'Battle'

As has been the case in recent years, the "Battle of the Bees" between the Perham and Frazee basketball team's hasn't been much of a battle.

Yellowjacket head coach Dave Cresap improved to 32-0 against the Hornets in his career at Perham, with a 83-33 win Tuesday night at Prairie Wind Gymnasium.

The game was decided early, as Perham jumped out to a 29-8 lead in the first nine minutes of the game. By halftime, they were up 49-18.

The Jackets had a 73-23 lead with 11 minutes to play in the game when the running time "Mercy Rule" was activated.

The Jackets hit 12 3-pointers in the game. Zach Gabbard hit six of them to finish with 18 points. Nick Tobkin hit four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points.

Ben Bucholz led the Jackets with 20 points.

Perham doubled-up the Hornets on the glass, out-rebounding them 37-15. Bucholz and Mike Wiskow each pulled down six rebounds. Ben Waldon and Mark Schumacher had four boards a piece.

Jordan Bruhn finished with 12 assists to go with five points.

Road win at WCA

Perham had one of their best shooting night's of the year Thursday in a 72-58 win in Barrett against West Central Area.

"We shot the lights out," Cresap said. "We really had a great all around game."

Perham shot 50 percent from 3-point land (14-for-28), and they were 28-for-63 from the field overall (44 percent).

Bucholz had 22 points, going 10-for-18 from the floor. The St. Cloud State recruit also pulled down 15 rebounds and blocked five shots to lead Perham.

Bruhn had 19 points, four rebounds and eight assists. Jordan Cresap finished with 13 and Tobkin was also in double digits with 11.

Bruhn and Cresap combined for nine of the team's 14 3-pointers on 16 attempts.

Perham also beat WCA on Jan. 7, 85-47, and have now won six-straight win over the Knights.

Next

Perham will play back-to-back home games this week to close out the regular season.

The Jackets will take on Section 8AA rival Wadena-Deer Creek at Prairie Wind Gymnasium tonight (Feb. 25).

The Wolverines (9-11) won last year's contest, 78-48.

The final regular season home game will come Feb. 26 against Lake Park-Audubon. Perham will be looking to avenge a loss to the Raiders on Jan. 15, 52-46.

The regular season will come to an end March 2 at Pelican Rapids. The Jackets won beat Pelican Rapids on Jan. 21, 51-32.
