The New York Mills Marching Eagles were one of three marching bands that participated in the Turtle Fest Grand Parade last Friday. As a salute to area veterans, the parade paused for a performance of the National Anthem by the Marching Eagles and Sadie Stoll. The Lakes Area Mountaineer Club simulated the shooting off of canons as a tribute, as well. There were 104 entries in the parade this year, and the streets were lined with spectators. Turtle Fest paraded through Perham in its usual grand style last week.

The parade featured 104 entries, and parade organizer Tyler Krumwiede said the crowd swelled to as many as 5,000 people. Included in the 'Salute to Veterans'-themed parade agenda was a flyover of a B51 Mustang Bomber, which roared over the tops of buildings downtown.

In addition to the parade, this year's Turtle Fest included turtle races, a dog expo, a singing competition, Miss Tootsie contest, medallion hunts, a soap box derby, kid-friendly games, a fun fly, a frisbee golf tournament, professional entertainment, Art in the Park, street dances, demolition derbies and more - a full weeks' worth of fun activities.
