Perham's Nick Carignan wins Harrier Half-Marathon

PERHAM -- Runners were up just after the crack of dawn to participate in the third annual Perham Harrier Half Marathon and 5k races Saturday.

"Great turnout today and an excellent race," Race Director Jeff Morris said.

135 racers participated in the day's action, 60 in the 5k race.

Perham cross-country runners took up plenty of finishes near the top of each race.

Nick Carignan won the half-marathon in a time of 1:21.59, averaging 6:15 miles, with five fellow teammates just behind.

Teammates Dalton Dahms, second place, Brady Speicher, fourth, and Jayden Cullen, fifth, and Keeghan Hurley, in sixth, went for a clean sweep of the top five spots.

Fargo's Tory Ivesdahl finished third to break up the Yellowjacket pack.

Behind Hurley in seventh was former Perham standout Maddie McClellan, who was the top female finisher in a time of 1:27.34.

Emily Knapczyk, an 18-year-old from Plymouth, Minn., won the female 5k race in 19:05.6. Knapczyk was the only female runner to break the 20-minute mark.

Raenna Covington, Racole Karels, Tanya Berns and Marlee Curtis all cracked the top 10.

On the men's side, Connor Danielson, 16, finished first in a time of 17:49.7.

Kyle Bernier, of Dent, was runner up.

Christopher Knutson, Nick Listrom and Hunter Kjelshus all had top 10 finishes.
