Phil Moenkedick ranked No. 1 at Concordia

Cobber junior Phil Moenkedick, a 2007 PHS graduate, went 3-0 at the Cobber Open on Nov. 21 and captured the championship at 184 pounds. It is his third straight Cobber Open individual weight class championship.

Moenkedick, who is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation at 184, is 11-0 on the season and has won five matches by pin fall.

Two other former Jacket wrestlers are on the Concordia roster. Junior Justin Berns is 7-0 at 149 pounds with two pins. Freshman Nathan Schmitz is 10-6 at 197 pounds.

On Nov. 14 in the NDSU Bison Open, Phil tied for first place at 184 pounds with older brother Kenny, a junior at NDSU. Kenny is 3-2 overall this season.

Both Concordia College and NDSU will be wrestling in the Dragon Open on Dec. 5 at MSU-Moorhead, where another former Jacket, Michael Guehna, is on the roster. .
