PHS Boys Basketball: 2009-10 Season Preview
Perham Minnesota 222 2nd Avenue SE 56573

Head Coach:

Dave Cresap (15th Season at PHS, 234-170; 25th season overall, 338-188)

Assistant Coaches: Brian Schwantz (JV), Brent Hanson (C-Team), Tim Schmitz (Volunteer), Craig Dahms (Volunteer)

2008-09 Season: The Yellowjackets finished with a 11-15 record last year. They were 9-9 in the Heart O' Lakes Conference, good for 6th place. Pelican Rapids won the HOL title with a perfect 18-0 conference record (33-0 overall).

2009 Sections:

Perham was the No. 6 seed in the 8AA West Sub-Section playoffs. They lost their first round game to No. 3 D-G-F, 67-60. Pelican Rapids cruised through Section 8AA, winning their four games by an average margin of 36.5 points on their way to the title. They went on to the State Class AA Tournament, where they won the championship with three wins by an average margin of 18.3 points per game.

2009-10 Seniors:

Ben Bucholz (Captain, Pre-Season Section 8AA Player of the Year), Ben Waldon (Captain), Jake Kalina.

Get to Know'em: Nick Tobkin (Jr.), Keith Schornack (Jr.), Des Duffy (Jr.), Jordan Cresap (Soph.), Jordan Bruhn (Soph.), Zach Gabbard (Soph.), Mike Wiskow (Soph.)

Sam Stratton (Soph.).

The Jackets should be a very good defensive team along with a good outside shooting team. They will push the ball in transition trying to get easy baskets and playing a very exciting brand of basketball for the fans to watch. They will be a very young team with five juniors, eight sophomores and a freshman that will continue to grow as the season goes along. Bucholz will be a dominant force, inside and out.

Season Outlook: Hawley, Breckenridge, and D-G-F should be the favorites in the HOL. Crosby-Ironton, Pequot Lakes and Hawley should be the favorites on the 8AA South Sub-Section. East Grand Forks, Thief River Falls, and Red Lake County are all bringing back good teams in the North Sub-Section.

Coaches Quote:

"Be satisfied with nothing but your best."
