The Perham Yellowjackets snapped a four game losing streak to Breckenridge with a 61-57 win Friday night at Prairie Wind Gymnasium.

The Jackets inside-outside game was working in the first half with 6'7" center Ben Bucholz controlling the middle. His 10 points in the first half helped draw in the defense, allowing Jordan Cresap, Nick Tobkin and Zach Gabbard to combine for four three-pointers.

Gabbard's three-pointer brought Perham even with the Cowboys for a 28-28 tie at halftime.

With Perham holding on to a 36-35 lead early in the second half, the Jackets exploded for a 11-2 run. Eight of those came from sophomore Jordan Bruhn, who hit a pair of three's and capped the run with a break-away lay-up.

Breckenridge would respond with an 12-1 run of their own, and regained a 49-48 lead with eight minutes to play.

Tobkin stepped up for the Jackets, and scored the game's next six points to Perham back on top, 54-49.

"We didn't show our inexperience there," head coach Dave Cresap said. "They really stayed calm and made the play's to put the game away against a top-10 team."

After another Tobkin score put the Jackets up 58-55, Mike Wiskow put in the team's final three points to secure the win.

"Everybody really came through," Bucholz said. Bucholz, one of only two seniors on the floor Friday along with Ben Waldon, finished with 15 points and five rebounds. "I never really played with a lot of these guys until last summer. I looked around and was like, 'these guys are all sophomores'. But we molded pretty well right away. We have a lot of good young players here."

Tobkin finished with 15 points and Bruhn ended with 12, all coming in the second half. Gabbard was also in double figures with 10 points to go with four assists. Wiskow contributed more than the final three points of the game. He also had six boards, three assists and a pair of steals.

The Cowboys (1-1), are ranked No. 9 in Class AA in the first basketball poll of the 2009-10 season. They were 22-6 last year, 15-3 in the HOL (2nd place).

Monday at D-G-F

Perham's first road game of the season will be Dec. 14 in Glyndon against D-G-F. The Rebels beat Perham three times last season, including a 67-60 victory in the first round of the 8AA playoffs.

On Dec. 17, the Jackets will travel to Hawley. The Nuggets won both games in the series last season and have won seven of the last nine meetings overall.

Perham will once again spend their Holiday break playing in the Worthington Classic Dec. 29-30. Joining the Jackets will be the host Trojans, Adrian and Brandon-Evansville.
