PHS choirs, orchestra perform Latin 'Requiem'

Local musicians recently performed "Requiem" at Calvary Lutheran Church.

It was a challenging artistic undertaking for Perham High School musicians: Performing "Requiem" in Latin, combining the choir, band and orchestra, and select adult musicians from the community. The larger group filled the sanctuary of the church, and the performance attracted a near-full house. In addition to the six-movement piece, holiday favorites were performed, such as "Carol of the Bells," "Joy to the World," and the Perham choir's traditional holiday season finale, "Peace, Peace."

The concert was staged Dec. 20 at Calvary Lutheran Church, which allowed the production to include the church organ-played by Russ Bunker. The combined instrumental and vocal concert was under the direction of Kevin Kosiak, with orchestra director Kurt Hoesly conducting the instrumentalists in several opening selections.

Vocal soloists included Emily Peterson and Kelly Nelson. Student pianists were Jordan Berns and Beth Ingebrand.

From the community, Joan Covington performed a violin solo.
