The Perham girls finished their dominating season in the Heart O' Lakes Conference by winning their second straight title Tuesday at Wildflower G.C. The Lady Jackets had a 10-point leading heading into Tuesday's final round, which counted for double points in the conference standings.

Perham had little to worry about, as they won the front-nine at Wildflower with a 187, led by medalist Holly Karkela's 43. The Jackets also won the back-nine with a 195. For the season, Perham won nine of the 10 HOL events this year.

"The girls have really worked hard all spring, and they have been very consistent," head coach Cory Solberg said. "They have all stepped up at different times through out the season and that's why we are leading the HOL."

Perham had all six regular varsity golfers earn All-Conference honors. Solberg believes it is the first time that has happened.

Holly Karkela earned HOL M.V.P. honors with a low season average of 44. Leah Richter was 3rd in HOL average (46.5), followed by Abby Huebsch in 5th (46.63), Miranda Phelps in 7th (48.25), Kaylan Huber in 8th (48.5) and Becca Huebsch in 10th (50.5).

"We really focus on the team aspect of golf," Solberg said. "It's because of the great individual scores that put our team in a good position at the end of our conference season."

The Jackets finished the HOL with 11 points. Barnesville/Rothsay was second with 25 points.

"I always look at each spring in two seasons," Solberg said. "The first part is the regular season. We played really well. The girls worked hard and were consistent. Now we need to translate that into the second season, sections. We'll need to step it up another notch to keep playing deeper into the season."

Finale at PLGC

The one and only home meet for the Jacket girls at Perham Lakeside G.C. came in the final regular season HOL meet last Thursday.

The Jackets had four girls in the top-six as they cruised to the team title with a 184. Pelican Rapids was a distant second with a 209.

Leading all golfers was Huber, who shot a 43. In a tie for second place were Karkela and Phelps, who both shot 46.

The girls got a look at Longbow G.C. in Walker on May 13 at the W-H-A Invitational.

Crookston, led by co-medalist's Lindsey Morgan and Rachel Wold, won the team title with a 361.

Perham finished ninth with a 436. Becca Huebsch and Ali Smith both shot 108's for the Lady Jackets.
