After a brutal afternoon in their home opener, the Yellowjacket softball team rebounded with three wins in the last week, including a pair over Pelican Rapids.

The week began with a 16-0 loss to D-G-F in the home opener. Perham committed five errors and were only able to get two base hits.

Perham got another shot at the Rebels on Saturday in the first round of the Frazee Tournament. Perham played better, but D-G-F still pulled out an 8-5 win.

"We played better, but still had too many errors," head coach Jill Walter said.

The Jackets out-hit D-G-F, 8-6, but they committed nine errors in the game.

Perham rebounded to win their next two games in the tournament, beating Staples-Motley 19-5, the taking the consolation title with a 10-4 win over Pelican Rapids. The Jackets got their offense going with 32 hits in the two wins.

"I like to see that there are hitters up and down the line-up," Walter said. "It's a good feeling having runners on base knowing that the hitting capabilities are there in all nine positions."

Mallory Malikowski had a great day at the plate, going 8-for-11 with a grand slam, two doubles, a triple, six runs scored and 11 RBI.

"Mallory has been very consistent and her bat has definitely come back," Walter said. "She capitalizes when runners are on and helps to give herself as a pitcher some cushion."

Setting the table for the Jacket offense was Steph Miller. The lead-off hitter seven hits in the three games at Frazee.

"As a lead-off, she is smart with her bat and leads the team by example," Walter said. "Off the top of my head, I don't know if there has been a game yet where she hasn't led off with a hit. She's been a great fit defensively this season moving from the key role of a centerfielder last year to being our shortstop this year."

Perham made it three wins in a row on Monday with another 10-4 win at Pelican Rapids. The Jackets scored in each of the first six innings. Miller and Brittnee Hersch were each 3-for-5. Malikowski and Lauren Guck were both 2-for-4.

"When we work out some of the mental errors and physical errors with more outdoor play and practice, we'll continue to see more success on the field," Walter said.

Perham will have a full week off before they return to Mid-State Conference play with a doubleheader at Park Rapids on April 28. The Jackets will look to give the home fans a better showing than their first game on May 1 when they host Wadena-Deer Creek.
