Things went badly from the beginning of the Yellowjacket's Section 8AA softball playoff game against Otter Tail Central Tuesday. Two Perham starters were knocked from the game in the first two innings and the Jackets were held without a hit as they were eliminated by OTC, 13-0.

Junior outfielder Natalie Wierbos left the game in the bottom of the first after getting hit on her hand during a bunt attempt. Then in the top of the second, senior starting pitcher Mallory Malikowski was hit by a line drive on her pitching arm and was forced to leave the game.

Freshman Ashley Silbernagel finished the game in the pitching circle, allowing nine runs and nine hits in her first varsity game. Malikowski had pitched in 18 of Perham's 19 regular season games this spring.

Meanwhile, OTC's lefthanded pitcher Calley Nelson struckout 13 Perham batters and walked just three while throwing her no-hitter.

OTC is the defending 8AA champ. They are now 18-3, 11-3 in the Park Region Conference and tied for the PRC Championship with Verndale.

They knocked Perham out of last year's playoffs in the first round, 2-0.

Double elimination begins in the next round of the 8AA playoffs. South sub-section semifinal games played today (May 21) in Frazee at 4 p.m. The sub-section championship and loser bracket semifinal games will be at 6 p.m.

Finale loss

The Lady Jackets lost their final regular season home game on May 14 at Moorhead, 7-3.

Perham had a brief 1-0 lead after three innings, but the Spuds scored all seven of their runs in the next three.

Steph Miller was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Mallory Malikowski and Brooke Mickelson were both 1-for-3 with a double and RBI and Natalie Wierbos was 1-for-2 with a run scored.
