A large group of Perham High School students walked a mile in women’s shoes on Friday, helping to raise awareness of the serious causes and effects of rape, sexual assault and gender violence.

The group held banners and walked from the high school to Lakes Café, where they were treated to chili.

The walk was organized locally by Someplace Safe, but takes place in communities around the world once every year.

Meant to be playful and get people talking, the walk is especially aimed at men and boys, who are encouraged to wear high heels for the mile-long endeavor.
