PERHAM -- A complete game from starter Tyler Doll and a team collection of 11 hits helped the Perham Pirates advance to the final three in the Hi-10 playoffs.

Perham defeated New York Mills 7-1 Friday evening at Krueger Field.

J.T. Laughlin and Chris Ruther each scored in the second and fourth innings to give Perham a 4-0 lead midway through the game.

Ruther had a big night with three singles in four appearances and a stolen base.

Drew Schultz knocked in Dan Koch - pinch running for Josh Hendrickx - in the sixth inning to pull the Millers within three runs down 4-1.

The Pirates answered back in the bottom half of the sixth with three runs to put the game away.

Catcher Brad Ellingson hit a two-RBI double to score Doll and Gavin Biegler.

Jake Kalina walked, moved to second on a past ball and scored on a Taylor Doll single.

Doll purposely over-ran the first base bag and created a hotbox that allowed Kalina to score from third base.

Doll was out on the play.

Tyler Doll cruised on the mound pitching all nine innings, allowing one run on six hits. He walked two and sent eight Millers back to the dugout by way of strikeouts.

Third base was a hotspot for put-outs. 13 plays ended on the score sheet 5-3 with Miller third baseman Mike Baune making 11 assists in the game. An error in the first inning kept Baune from tallying a dozen.

Josh Hendrickx just missed the game's only home run with a 350-foot double that bounced midway up the fence in centerfield to start the sixth inning.

He gave way to pinch runner Dan Koch, who eventually scored the only Millers' run.

Hendrickx took the loss pitching 5.2 innings. He fanned one Pirate, walked nobody, allowed seven runs, four earned on eight hits.

The Pirates' second and sixth innings were identical with three singles and two runs scored.

The Pirates will face Detroit Lakes in Audubon today, Saturday, July 28, at 3:45 p.m. for the right to face the Bertha Blazers, in Bertha, in Sunday's Hi-10 championship.

Both the Millers and Pirates have qualified for the Region 14C tournament.

The Millers are the four-seed. The loser of Perham and Detroit Lakes will be the third seed from the league.
