A place for little princesses to find the perfect dress
As a mother of three young daughters, Tammy Kircher knows that sometimes little girls just want to dress up.
Whether it’s for a wedding, a Christening, a dance or just for fun, there are special occasions that call for a lot of fluff, puff, sparkle and twirly skirts.
Yet while shopping for fancy dresses for her girls, Kircher learned that there weren’t a lot of local options. Finding just the right thing usually meant traveling to Fargo or further, or otherwise shopping online, which didn’t give her girls the chance to try the dresses on – and, concerns about fit aside, who wants to rob their little girl of the opportunity to try on pretty dresses?
To solve this problem, for herself and other parents, Kircher has opened a new shop in town that sells decorative dresses for little ones. Called T.K. Expressions, the store features sizes for newborns through pre-teens.
The shop quietly opened in December, and Kircher said she’s already had a few brides come in to look for flower girl dresses, and families that have shopped for Christening outfits. Kircher keeps enough inventory in the shop to allow the girls to try on different sizes and styles, but special orders are also available, and usually arrive within one week.
The store is located in the back room of Salon on Second, which is owned by Kircher’s mother, Sandy Winkels. Kircher has been working at the salon since last fall, doing bookwork and helping with the retail side of the business.
As T.K. Expressions continues to grow, Kircher said, she hopes to add more accessories like hair clips and purses. She’s also considering adding a line of dance wear, depending on community need and feedback.
“It’s fun,” Kircher said of running her new business. “The response has been good so far.”
Kircher, a Wadena native, had previous experience in sales and marketing through her work with the salon. In addition to being the mother of three girls, she is familiar with special occasion dresses through her volunteer work with the Verndale pageant.
