Power pole fire causes power outages

Friday around 10 a.m., a power pole started on fire across from Hoot's Sports on East Main Street in Perham, causing brief power surges and some power outages in the area.

Before an inspection took place, a representative from Otter Tail Power said they suspected the suspension insulator, the piece that holds the wire onto the pole, wore out causing the wire to hit the pole and start a fire.

An electrical wire was also down.

Perham fire and police departments responded, as well as Otter Tail Power. No one was injured.
