Prairie South and North split six games in week one leaving both divisions with three teams at 1-0 and three at 0-1. Week two is another split of inter-conference games between the two divisions highlighted by undefeated match-ups between Ottertail Central at Wadena-Deer Creek and Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at Barnesville.

North vs. South battle of unbeatens

Junior Quarterback Andrew Smith leads Ottertail Central after a 12-rush, 133-yard performance with two scores in the Bulldogs opening victory over United North Central 34-6. Smith completed four passes for 49 yards and a touchdown. Eight rushers put up over 340 yards in the game. The Bulldogs travel to Wadena where first-year, but wily veteran Head Coach Howie Kangas, has the Wolverines in unfamiliar territory with a tally in the win column. Last week, the Wolverines snapped a 17-game losing streak with a 28-16 victory over West Central Area in Barrett. Senior quarterback Evan VanErp scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to lead WDC back from being down 16-14 with 10 minutes to go.

The second meeting of 1-0 teams puts KMS on the road at Barnesville where the Trojans are playing their second game in a row at home. The Trojans blew up in the second half in a 34-6 victory over Browerville. The game was knotted at 6 at the break leading to Barnesville erupting for 20 third-quarter points, including a highlight reel 75-yard punt return from Michael Strand. KMS defeated Osakis 18-8 at home in Murdock. The Fighting Saints out-rushed the Silverstreaks 254 yards to 132, led by Jordan Rothers' 148-yard performance. Both teams pitched a shutout into the third quarter before Rothers scored in the third from 10 yards out and again in the fourth with the eventual game-winner, a five-yard touchdown run.

North vs. South quests for first win

New York Mills and Osakis will battle each other to avoid an 0-2 start. The Eagles fell behind 33-0 at Upsala/Swanville but put two touchdowns on the board late. Any momentum from what was a dreary opening half has to come from moving the ball in the second half of the opening game loss. Speedy Slotback Shane Novak scored on a 27-yard pass from Charlie Peeters in a game where Novak's speed was underutilized and the Eagles found themselves bunched up at the line. In the 18-8 loss to KMS, Osakis had three rushers with 40+ yards each. Brian Thorstad was 8-81, including a 58-yard TD run for the Silverstreaks' only score. Drew Fearing rushed 7 times for 51 yards. Hunter Johnson was 10-40. Osakis passed for less than 60 yards with two interceptions.

LP-GE and WCA meet up in the second match-up of 0-1 teams. Preston Pung scored two touchdowns to lead LP-GE to a 14-13 lead in the fourth quarter at home but the Thunder's hopes were dashed by an 88-yard punt return by Royalton's Luke Wentland that proved to be the game winner 19-14. West Central Area led by two points with 10 minutes to go but Wadena-Deer Creek rallied with two late touchdowns to spoil the Knights' home opener 28-16.

North vs. South one-win one-loss match-ups

The final two games feature teams with one win versus teams with one loss

United North Central rushed for less than 30 yards against Ottertail Central. Senior Quarterback Brandon Junes completed 10 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown to senior Tanner Schwartz. Junes was picked off twice in a 34-6 loss to Ottertail Central. Royalton avoided a loss thanks to their special teams and Wentland's fourth quarter 88-yard punt return to the house for a big comeback win.

Upsala/Swanville looks to improve to 2-0 after a 33-15 victory over New York Mills. Mitch Lange and Austin Mollner each scored twice in an impressive rushing performance by the Patriots. Browerville managed only six points against a tough Barnesville squad on the road in a game that was even at six at halftime.
