Refrigerator stolen from Boedy Appliance falls in ditch, recovered after 30 minutes
A used refrigerator was taken from behind Boedy Appliance in Perham the morning of May 14.
Shop owner Jim Buchanan said he saw the vehicle and trailer turn near the post office with the refrigerator, but thought nothing of it at first. When he returned to the store, employees realized it had been taken without permission.
Within 30 minutes, the refrigerator had been found on the side of County Highway 80 east of Perham, where the road crosses the Otter Tail River.
“I thought it was pretty good that they took concern even though it was reported as a broken fridge,” Buchanan said of the Perham Police Department’s quick response.
Buchanan said the appliance most likely blew off of the trailer when a larger vehicle went by – since he didn’t notice any straps.
Because the refrigerator had not yet been tested to see if it worked, a damage estimate was not available.
Buchanan said broken or untested used appliances are often kept outside right behind the store. Parts and cords have been taken in the past.
